Ki-gurai (n.)

Strength derived through confidence. The intuitive ability to read an opponent's intentions.

About me

I am a Christian, a husband, a father of two, an ancient history teacher, a PhD student, a keen kendoka (player of kendo) and a volunteer firefighter.

About this blog

This is an account of my learning experiences as a student of kendo.

The Philosophy of Kendo

To mold the mind and body, To cultivate a vigorous spirit, And through correct and rigid training, To strive for improvement in the art of Kendo, To hold in esteem human courtesy and honor, To associate with others with sincerity, And to forever pursue the cultivation of oneself. This will make one be able: To love his/her country and society, To contribute to the development of culture And to promote peace and prosperity among all peoples.

Sydney Kendo Club – SKC3s Friendship Cup

Saturday 28 February 2009 - This is the first time this event has been held. For more details, see the club's website.

2009 Goals

Obtain 4th kyu (achieved at Picton grading session on 7 February). Work on my zanshin. Refine my men cuts and work on diversifying my techniques (including working up a strong kote). Continue to improve my kihon-dosa and to execute my actions with strength and confidence. Continue to build my own physical resilience
